His travels took him to Arizone, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah. When he's not traveling, Hatfield works for Ryan's Western Wear in Fort Worth.

He is the son of Bonnie and Ed Hatfield, also of Granbury. His biggest break to date came earlier this month when he fought in the Bustin' Diabetes charily rodeo at Northsidc Coliseum in Fort Worth. He realized a long-time dream that night because he worked with his brother-in-law for the first time. Another PRCA cowboy, Jeff Grigsby, also worked with them. Those were the baddest bulls I've ever been in front of," said Hatfield.

He says that his entry into the PRCA is probably still a few years really have-to deserve it," he says. he can. At a bullfighting contest in Midland once, Hatfield drew a bull named Bar 11 who knocked him down and stepped on his chest. At the contest finals, he drew the same bull-and won. "No bullfight is ever the same," he says.

"There is nothing scarier than getting back in with a bull that ran over you." Hatfield's brother-in-law, Granbury's Jim Bob Feller, is a Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) clown. He sparked Eddie's interest when he was young-Hatfield has been traveling with him since he was eight. After high school, Hatfield decided he really wanted a pursue a career as a clown. About a year ago, the 19-year-old went to Rick Chatman's rodeo schxl in Wea-therford. A member of the Pro Rodeo Cowboy Association, Chatman won the Wrangler Bullfighting Tour in 1984.

Hatfield said he had some idea pound beast that wants to kill you," says Eddie Hatfield. Such is the life of a rodeo clown-also known as a bullfighter. A Granbury High School graduate, Hatfield is just beginning his bullfighting career and no illusions about the danger he faces each time he steps into the rodeo arena. 2 "Before I began, I had watched lot of bulls and knew how to fight, but its a completely different deal when you're out there in front of 'em," he says. The first objective of a bullfighter is to protect the cowboy, ijsays Hatfield.

Then, as soon as you know the cowboy is safe, you xan show off," he adds. The showing off is where the term "rodeo clown" came into being. To help distract bulls from fallen cowboys and to entertain clowns dress in bright colors and lots of makeup.
