Hood County NewsWednesday, May 26, 1993 3 A Perfect day for a picnic Historic photo Pictured is Hood County pioneer A.E. Moore. Moore's portrait was taken by Preston Goforth, who had a photo studio on the west side of Granbury's square around the turn of the century. Moore's step great-granddaughter, Jackson Bend area resident Mary Duncan, wants to learn more about Preston Goforth and his studio. Residents who have information on Goforth are urged to call Duncan at 326-2075.

Moore reportedly knew presidential assassin John Wilkes Booth back in his home state of Tennessee, said Duncan. Legend has it that Booth escaped to Granbury to assume the alias of barkeeper John St. Helen. Moore later reportedly recognized St. Helen as Booth, but told no one because he approved of Lincoln's murder, Duncan said she has heard.

County commissioners appointed retired public works official Cliff Clinton to the task force at the request of the Acton Municipal Utility District (AMUD).

Hood County agricultural extension agent Shannon DeForest and Johnson County Electric Cooperative manager Brent Northcutt were also appointed to the task force. Commissioner David Cleveland stated DeForest and Northcutt were appointed becau se of their agencies interest in the proposed plant. Eight Hood County residents were appointed to the task force in Commissioners stated the task force will try to determine what route to take in the construction of a sewage treatment plant Increasing alarm over pollution of Lake Granbury by faulty septic systems first sparked the idea last year of building the plant. Continuous monitoring of the lake's sewage level by volunteers has indicated that there are already high levels of pollution in some areas, say county officials. The proposed plant would mainly target lakeside developments.

It would require an election to create a special utility district for construction of the plant. No deadline has been set for the task force to return with its recommendations. Cliff Clinton, Shannon DeForest and Lee Overs tree appointed April. Those residents are: former county judge Milton Meyer, H.W. Gatton, of Indian Harbor; Jerry Boone, former Brazos River Authority board member and deCordova Bend Estates resident; E.T.
