Many ordinances regulate what may and may not be shown. Note, however, that program content regulations are strictly subject to the standards of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution relating to obscenity and freedom of speech. The Federal Communications Commission has very little power to regulate in this area, because its jurisdiction is primarily over matters broadcast through the public airways. There are a number of bills related to cable television presently pending before Congress to define federal guidelines over cable content.
