Hearing set to stop Pecan election BY KATHY CRUZ HOOD COUNTY NEWS An effort to yank Pecan Plantation from the jaws of the city of Granbury may be yanked from the Nov. 2 General Election ballot halfway through early voting. County court-at-law judge Vincent Messina will hear arguments next week on whether the yes-or-no incorporation question should remain on the ballot. Pecan resident Chris Lawry is seeking a temporary injunction to block the vote, citing and from incorporation proponents, as well as violations of the Local Government Code.

A hearing on the matter was scheduled for Monday afternoon in court the first day of early voting. However, the case was reset for the following Monday after Messina met in chambers with county attorney Kelton Conner and Fort Worth attorney Gregory Pitts, who is representing Lawry. Many Pecan residents be- came outraged after learning that a committee formed to research incorporation presented a petition with 100 signatures to county judge Andy Rash, demanding that the Commissioners Court place the question on the November ballot. The majority of Pecan residents were not involved in the decision. The rush to put the question to a vote was because of fears that the city of Granbury could move quickly to extend its extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ), swallowing up the gated community in the southeastern part of the county.

Granbury mayor Rickie Pratt said city officials have no intention of attempting such a move. Those who oppose Pecan incorporating as a or municipality say the move would carry a spate of negative consequences, including stripping away the ability to force developers to adhere to regulations. 817-573-7066, ext. 258 plained. the byproduct was that he did extremely Norman called Hooks' commitment to the church gave so much in time, energy and resources.

Below is the question and the correct response.

What are your views about the planned expansion of the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant in Glen Rose and the fact that water would have to be taken from Lake Granbury to cool the two new reactors? The expansion of the power plant is a positive economic move for Texas. During construction, jobs created for Hood, Somervell, and Johnson counties will be in the Progress is necessary to keep Hood County moving forward in the 21st century. The Lake Granbury water levels would not be affected until Comanche Peak is powered up in the next 10 years. During that time, alternative arrangements should be made between Lakes Possum Kingdom, Whitney, and Granbury to insure a steady water supply is available to cool the reactors and maintain water levels in each lake at an optimal point.
